Tatneft, Chinese experts to carry out joint testing program

Nov 03, 1999 01:00 AM

Tatneft's press service announced that the company was participating in a joint Russian-Chinese program technological testing of oil deposits.
Under the program, Tatneft will conduct tests at the Taching oil field. Chinese experts, meanwhile, will carry out similar work at the Romashkinskoye deposit, to which Tatneft holds the license.
The two fields are similar geologically, but Romashkinskoye has been subjected to more extensive development. It currently yields about 50-55 million metric tons of crude per year and has been included in the Russian government's official list of deposits open to development on a production-sharing basis.
The press service noted that the technological testing program will help Tatneft gain access to Chinese carbon-oxygen logging techniques that are used to distinguish oil and water when drilling at great depths. Tatneft also hopes to learn Chinese oil experts' methods of sampling in multiple-zone oil fields and separate water injection.
The Chinese side inturn hopes to make use of certain Russian techniques, including methods for increasing oil output.
