Republic of Udmurtia planning to modernise oil sector

Nov 14, 1999 01:00 AM

Aleksandr Volkov, president of Udmurtia's State Council, told that the Russian government had agreed to help modernise the republic's oil sector.
Volkov did not specify what type of assistance the Kremlin was willing to give. He did say, however, that Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had given his approval to an industrial development program drafted by Udmurt authorities.
The program provides for the overhaul of Udmurtia's ageing oil complex and also of the Izhevsk automobile works, Russian press sources noted. Volkov did not reveal many details of the program but said it would put the Udmurt oil sector in a position of no longer needing federal subsidies within two or three years.
