BG International, a unit of the United Kingdom's BG Group, and its partner, Edison International of the United States, announced the drilling of two successful appraisal wells in the 50:50 West Delta Deep Marine Concession joint venture in Egypt.
BG said the Simian-2 and Simian-3 wells, located 71 and 77 km respectively north-east of Alexandria, were drilled to appraise the Simian Field discovered in deep waters off the Nile Delta in 1999. The Simian-1 discovery well, BG said, located 65 km from shore, tested at 44 mm standard cfpd of gas although the flow rate was constrained by the capacity of the testing equipment.
The Simian-2 and Simian-3 wells are being drilled by the Burullus Gas Company -- the concession operating company. The consortium involved in the venture includes the Egyptian General Petroleum (50 %), BG International (25 %) and Edison International (25 %). In March, BG, Edison and the Egyptian General Petroleum said they had signed an agreement to promote a gas export schemeusing LNG.
