Petrobras to invest $ 830 mm in petroleum refinery Reduc

Petrobras will invest $ 830 mm in the petroleum refinery Reduc (Refinaria Duque de Caxias) until 2003. The resources will be destinated for the construction of new production units and enhancement of its products like diesel and lubricants.
Reduc has a nominal capacity of 38 mm litres of oil per day holding 12 % of the domestic market of derivatives, including gas, diesel and LPG and combustible oil. The total investment will be split among four major projects, being two already approved by Petrobras' board: supply of raw material (ethane and propane) to Rio Polimeros ($ 50 mm) and construction of a diesel hydrotreatment unit ($ 230 mm).
The remainder $ 550 mm will be invested in new units for the production of lubricants and petroleum coke aiming to use the Brazilian petroleum. Currently, Reduc produces 600.000 tpy of lubricants using imported petroleum. In three years time, its nominal capacity might reach 42 mm litres/day.
