Jul 21, 2000 02:00 AM

Pan American Energy plans to invest more than $ 500 mm in Argentina between this year and 2001. Most of that amount will be spent in explorations over the San Jorge gulf. Of the overall investment, some $ 250 mm will be spent this year.
The company has already spent $ 185 mm this year to drill 100 new oil wells near the San Jorge gulf and to finish constructing a gas compressing plant in El Zorro, situated 40 km away from the Cerro Dragon oil field, which started being developed few days ago.
The plant presently processes 1.5 mm cmpd of gas. Pan American Energy posted a turnover of $ 580 mm last year. It considers developing gas reserves in the Marina Austral and Cuenca Noroeste basins, which would demand investments of between $ 1.3 bn and $ 1.4 bn
