Exxon starts test drilling on Russian Sakhalin exploratory well
Exxon Neftegas, the operator of the Sakhalin 1 project, which involves the development of three offshore oil and gas
fields near the Russian Far East island of Sakhalin, has started drilling an exploratory well at the Chaivo field on
the north-eastern Sakhalin shelf.
Recoverable reserves of all three fields total 325 mm tons of oil and 425 bn cm of gas. The Sakhalin 1 international
consortium comprises Russian Rosneft-Sakhalin with 17 %, Sakhalinmorneftegas, a subsidiary of Russian oil major
Rosneft, with 23 %, Exxon with 30 % and Japan's Sodeco with 30 %.
