Perth-based engineers Clough has announced it has secured two offshore oil and gas field contracts worth over A$ 38 mm. The company said it will start work immediately for Brunei Shell Petroleum, where it will fast-track the installation of eleven sub-sea water injection pipelines and associated infrastructure in the Champion oil and gas field in the South China Sea. Work on the A$ 25.6 mm ($ 13 mm) contract is due to be completed by the end of June 2001.
Under a joint venture, Clough and its Bruneian partner Haji Malai Mashhor will undertake the detailed design, procurement, fabrication, transportation, offshore installation, testing and pre-commissioning of the pipelines and associated works. The Champion field contract award comes just over a year after Clough won its first contract from Brunei Shell Petroleum for a similar amount.

The company is also contracted to start on-site at the Harriet Joint Venture's Gipsy field development off north-western Western Australia in October. The A$ 13 mm contract includes the installation of 12.5 km of sub-sea pipelines and other associated infrastructure between the Harriet A offshore production platform and Gipsy and North Gipsy fields operated by Apache on behalf of the joint-venture which also includes KUFPEC and Tap Oil.
Production of 10,000-15,000 bpd of light oil is scheduled from the new Gipsy and North Gipsy fields by the fourth quarter of this year. The Gipsy, North Gipsy, Rose and Lee fields, situated in the Carnarvon Basin, contain 10.54 mm barrels of oil and condensate and nearly 150 petajoules of gas in proven and probable reserves.
Dr. Brian Hewitt, Managing Director of Clough Limited, said the latest contract wins strengthen Clough Offshore Division's track record in the oil and gas sector in the region.
