The Ukrainian government plans to put out to tender a 63 % stake of the Kherson oil refinery before 2001, Ukraine's ambassador to Kazakhstan, Yevgeny Kartashov, said. He said that Kazakhoil was considered as the main contender for the stake.
"Kazakhoil has said it wants to purchase 63 % of the Kherson refinery. The government will put it to tender before the year-end," Kartashov told. He said the stake's price was valued at $ 60 mm, adding that the figure might change. Kartashov also said Ukraine expected Kazakh oil supplies to the refinery to increase to 3 mm tons this year from the originally agreed 1.2 mm.
Last year, the Ukrainian government handed over a 50 % share of the refinery in trust to Kazakhoil.
