Kazakhstan reports on oil and gas output during January-June period

Kazakhstan's Energy, Industry and Trade Ministry announced that crude oil and natural gas production levels had risen year-on-year in the first six months of 2000. Between January and June of this year, the ministry said, oil and condensate output amounted to 16.46 mm tons, up 16.5% on the figure posted in the same period of 1999.
The largest single oil producer during the first six months of the year was TengizChevroil (TCO), the US-Russian-Kazakhstani joint venture that is operating the super-giant Tengiz field, with 4.665 mm tons, or 1.6% less than in January-June of last year. Next came the state oil company Kazakhoil, with 2.842 mm tons (7% up year-on-year), followed by the Karachaganak group with 2.234 mm tons of condensate (40.5% up) and the regional producer Mangistaumunaigaz with 2.014 mm tons (3.3% up). Hurricane Kumkol Munai, the Kazakhstani subsidiary of Canada's Hurricane Hydrocarbons, produced 1.567 mm tons (50.9% up year-on-year), and the regional producer Aktobemunaigaz extracted1.259 mm tons (16.9% up).

Meanwhile, the ministry noted, Kazakhstan's gas output amounted to 4.296 bn cm in the January-June period, up 22.3% on the figure posted in the same period of 1999. The largest single producer of gas during the first six months of the year was the Karachaganak group with 2.32 bn cm, or 33.6% up year-on-year, followed by TCO with 968 mm cm (20.1% up) and Kazakhoil with 715 mm cm (1.7% down).
The ministry also stated that Kazakhstani deposits were expected to yield 33.1 mm tons of crude oil and gas condensate and 9.14 bn cm of natural gas this year, 24.4% up and 6.7% down, respectively on the 1999 figures. TCO is expected to produce 10.71 mm tons of oil and 3.26 bn cm of gas, while Kazakhoil is due to extract 5.57 mm tons of oil and 1.44 bn cm of gas and the Karachaganak group will extract 3.49 mm tons of condensate and 3.89 bn cm of gas. Mangistaumunaigaz is expected to produce 4.1 mm tons of oil, Hurricane 2.73 mm tons and Aktobemunaigaz 2.5 mm tons.
