Jul 25, 2000 02:00 AM

Demand for natural gas on the part of the state-run Mexican electricity industry is expected to grow at an annual rate of 16.5 % in the 1999-2008 period, reaching 24.486 bn cmpd by 2008, an Energy Ministry report said.
The majority of the increase in demand will come as a result of increased generation requirements at the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE, as a Spanish acronym), according to the report. In 1999, public sector natural gas consumption was 21.181 bn cmpd, and in 2008, is expected to reach 86.460 bn cmpd.
