Nine international firms interested to develop gas field in Jordan

Nine international firms have expressed an interest in developing Jordan's Al-Risheh gas field near the Iraqi border, board chairman of the state-owned National Oil Mohammad Hourani told. Hourani said the project envisaged increasing daily production to 65 mm cf from 30 mm at present.
He said the NOC earlier set July 31 as a deadline for receiving offers from specialised firms for developing the Risheh field, where latest studies indicated the existence of "promising reserves." "As the project requires high-tech capabilities, the NOC has invited qualified international firms to take part in the development process, which also involves the building of a plant for electricity generation," he added.
Hourani said applications were being studied to choose the best offer. He said Jordan's current gas production covered 10 % of its electricity needs.
