Russian approves co-operation agreement draft between Russia and China

The Russian government has approved the draft of the co-operation agreement in the energy sector between Russia and China, the government said. The government also authorised the energy ministry to sign the agreement with the Chinese side. The need to sign a new agreement was caused by the expiration of the previous bilateral agreement, signed in 1996.

GAS SECTOR: --development of the Kovytka gas in the Irkutsk region and construction of the pipeline from Kovykta to China, with the possibility of gas shipments to other countries
--development of the Chayandinskoye gas field in the constituent republic of Yakutiya and construction of a pipeline from Chayandinskoye to China
--gas deliveries from West Siberia to China
--joint development of gas fields and construction of gas pipelines
--joint studies on building underground gas storage facilities in China

--construction of an oil pipeline for oil deliveries to China, with the possibility of oil supplies to other countries
--deliveries of crude oil, produced in Kazakhstan, to China via Russia

Under the draft, the two countries would also co-operate in the electricity-production and the coal-mining sectors.
