Pakistan gives go-ahead for oil exploration to resume in Balochistan

Jul 25, 2000 02:00 AM

The go-ahead has been given by Pakistan for oil exploration to resume in the highly respective blocks in Balochistan following a suspension lasting years due to problems with law and order in the area. The ministry for petroleum and natural resources has said that the decision was finalised at a meeting in Quetta. The government in the region has given allowance for both local and foreign companies to operate in these blocks.
The issuance of a force majeure was the reason for the pause in the exploration process that was taking place. The force majeure was put in place in an attempt to try and resolve the law and order problems, including objections from local tribes, leading to clashes between the tribes.
