Pakistan and Azerbaijan discuss oil and gas cooperation

Defence Minister of Azerbaijan, Col. General Safar Abiyev, visiting Pakistan at the head of a 7-member delegation, called on the Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Usman Aminuddin and discussed with him matters pertaining to possibilities of Pakistan-Azerbaijan cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
Welcoming the delegation, Usman Aminuddin said Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy a strong and close bilateral relations growing and strengthening with the passage of time for the mutual benefits of the two brotherly Muslim countries. Both the countries have common perceptions and understandings on various regional and international issues.

The Federal Minister said that Pakistan and Azerbaijan were enriched with tremendous potentials, expertise and natural reserves and both the countries could benefit from each others' experience in this vital field of economy for the mutual benefit. Usman Aminuddin briefed the Azeri Defence Minister about the ongoing and future developmental activities in the upstream and downstream oil & gas sector in Pakistan.
He went on to say that Pakistan is developing Gwadar Port and coastal area at a fast pace with a view to make it a hub of regional and global oil & gas activity. He offered cooperation to Azerbaijan in the gas distribution system, oil & gas exploration and drilling activities and also invited the Azeri's investors to participate in the offshore exploration activity in Pakistan.

The Petroleum Minister also recalled his visit to Baku in September last at the head of Pakistan's delegation to the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) meeting and wide-range discussions with the Oil Minister of Azerbaijan which had provided him the opportunity to explore areas of Pakistan-Azerbaijan cooperation in the oil & gas sector.
Usman Aminuddin also extended an invitation to the Oil Minister of Azerbaijan to pay a visit to Pakistan with a view to promote Pakistan-Azerbaijan interactions in the oil & gas sector. He hoped that the visit of Azeri Defence Minister to Pakistan would open up new avenues of bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries.
Reciprocating his sentiments the Defence Minister, Safar Abiyev said that Azerbaijan and Pakistan enhanced cooperation in the oil & gas sector would further consolidate and strengthen the existing bonds fraternity and brotherhood between the two brotherly Muslim countries.

Secretary Petroleum & Natural Resources, M. Abdullah Yousuf, Sr. Joint Secretary (Development), Jahangir Bashar, Director General (Petroleum Concession), Shahid Ahmed, Director General (Gas), Khalid Naseem, Director General (Oil), Sabar Hussain and members o the Azerbaijan delegation were also present during the meeting.
