The controversy over the development of the Snoehvit gas field off the coast of Finnmark and Troms may finally be over. The Finance Minister has now proposed extra tax relief for the companies which are to build the gas pipeline.
There has been a conflict over how much tax the oil companies will have to pay on the income from the gas field. The Finance Minister has proposed to grant the companies an extra tax relief worth half a billion Norwegian kroner, in connection with the building of the gas pipeline between the production platform and the shore terminal at Hammerfest. However, the arrangement will first have to be approved by both the EU and Parliament.
