ENI makes deepwater gas find south of New Orleans

Jul 18, 2001 02:00 AM

ENI's exploration and production arm Agip has made a deepwater gas find. "The deposit, which has run through different levels of gas, was drilled in 1,190 mm (3,900 ft) of water for a total depth of 3,582 mm (11,748 ft)," ENI said. The Yosemite find was made in Green Canyon block 516, 240 km (150 miles) south of New Orleans with Mariner Energy and Noble Drilling.
ENI operates the block with 50 %; Mariner holds 44 % and Noble the remaining 6 %. Yosemite underlines ENI's Gulf of Mexico growth plans, and ties in with its plans for the King Kong project spanning four other Green Canyon blocks 472, 473, 417 which are operated by ENI 50 % and Mariner 50 %.

Because of its proximity to King Kong, Yosemite is expected to be tied in with that project, ENI said. "The project envisages the connection of King Kong, through two wells, and Yosemite, through one well, to ENI's Allegheny platform located at 25 km (15.6 miles) of distance.
