Tractebel said it is acquiring a 95 % stake in a $ 500 mm combined cycle gas turbine 770 MW power station project in Turkey, at a site about 40 km from Ankara.
Tractebel is buying 45 % of the shares in the project company Baymina from International Power, 45 % from Turkish conglomerate Bayindir, and 5 % from Turkish engineering firm Mimag, it said.

A Tractebel spokesman said Tractebel is paying $ 475 mm for the stake. After acquisition, Tractebel will fast-track the building of the power station, which is scheduled for completion by 2003, it said. Baymina has signed a 15-year sales contract with Turkish utility TEAS and a natural gas supply contract with Turkey's BOTAS, it said.
The Tractebel spokesman said there are certainly further opportunities in Turkey which the company will be looking at.
