UK gives go ahead for Avonmouth power station

Sep 17, 2001 02:00 AM

Brian Wilson, UK Minister for Energy, gave the go ahead to Avonmouth CHP to construct and operate a 180 MW gas-fired combined heat and power station at Severn Road, Avonmouth. The station will supply the heat and electricity needs of the Sevalco carbon black works.
Combined heat and power plants are designed to produce electricity and usable heat and have environmental benefits due to their very high level of efficiency. In addition this station will not only be fuelled by natural gas but will also use the waste gases produced by the Sevalco works therefore contributing to an improvement in local air quality.

Mr Wilson gave consent under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 to Avonmouth CHP to construct the 180 MW combined heat and power combined cycle gas turbine power station at the Sevalco carbon black works at Severn Road, Avonmouth. Planning permission for the station was granted subject to 53 conditions agreed with Bristol City Council.
