Ceara announces investment in energy power by private sector

The Brazilian president Mr Fernando Henrique Cardoso and the Ceara state governor Mr Tasso Jereissati have announced R$ 770 mm investment to be made by private sector in energy power at the state. One of the major projects is the thermal power facility Termeletrica MPX, being constructed by the businessman Mr Eike Batista. The plant will be able to produce 270 MW, and will demand R$ 475 mm investment. It will start operations in 2002 first quarter. Also Fhurlander Energias will invest R$ 105 mm in wind power generating complex in the region. Other R$ 80 mm will be destined by SIIF do Brasil, Eletrowind R$ 62.5 mm, and Enerbras R$ 25 mm.

In addition state government has started a tender for the acquisition of equipment for two wind power complex Paracuru and Camocim. The deal is estimated at R$ 120 mm, and the complex are financed by JBIC (Banco Japones para Cooperacao Internacional).
