Mexican state-owned energy company Pemex' main activities, exploration and production, are technology behind the times because of the tendency of its executives to acquire "old" technologies, said US consulting firm Arthur D. Little International.

After a five-month investigation, the consultancy concluded that Pemex is experiencing a technological crisis, that leads to disadvantage with the main transnational companies with which it competes, and a Mexican Petroleum Institute that "provides little added value to the petroleum industry," it was reported.
The company, contracted to evaluate Pemex' technology, said subsidiary Pemex Exploration and Production is particularly behind the times.
