Brazilian electric power distribution companies report losses

The Brazilian electric power distribution companies operating in the regions included in the power rationing program reported a loss of 20 % and according to the government it might reach R$ 12 bn. Some companies as CEB (Companhia Energitica de Brasilia) will suspend investments and others as Eletropaulo plan to keep them.
Light reported an income of R$ 38.9 mm in June 2001 and a operating net income of R$ 790.3 mm in the first half of the year. The result was 14 % higher than the reached in equal period of 2000. Light intends to invest R$ 355 mm in 2001 from which R$ 66 mm already invested in the second quarter of the year.
