Brazilian petroleum distributors to have access to Transpetro pipelines

Sep 20, 2001 02:00 AM

Brazilian distributors of petroleum derivatives will have access to the network of pipelines and terminals of Transpetro (Petrobras Transporte) for the transportation of gasoline and diesel fuel from October 1.
Transpetro has been given the right to charge fees for this service and to achieve requirements related to security and environmental concerns.

This was made possible by a change in regulations by the ANP (Agencia Nacional de Petroleo), which removed a set of prices for transportation which were seen as incompatible with free market principles.
Transpetro operates 9,300 km of pipeline, of which 25 % is idle. Increased access to this network will be important in boosting the importation of petroleum derivatives from 2002.
