Petrobras to increase purchases from Brazilian manufacturers

Sep 17, 2001 02:00 AM

Petrobras has promised the ONIP (Organizacao Nacional da Industria do Petroleo) that it will increase its purchasing of equipment from Brazilian manufacturers.
The main concern of the industry was to ensure that the new $ 300 mm oil platform to be located in the Albacora Leste oilfield be Brazilian built. The industry promised in return that it will present prices comparable to international ones.

Petrobras also agreed to pressure the government to give some form of tax breaks for the industry in order for it to be competitive. Four foreign companies have already submitted tenders for construction and operation of the platform, but Petrobras found these to be more expensive than anticipated.
The domestic companies took the opportunity to suggest that Petrobras build the platform with contracts from Brazilian companies.
