The Peruvian Ministry of Mines and Power is preparing norms to increase natural gas consumption.
Government authorities predict that the country's balance of trade will register a deficit until 2004. According to the government, the ceramics and glass industries, which presently spend between $ 7 and $ 8 per 1 mm Btu to be supplied with LPG, will pay nearly $ 2.5 per 1 mm Btu in case they use Camisea's natural gas. Authorities added that the Camisea gas will reduce electricity fares by 20 %.
