Mexico sells $ 7 bn worth of crude oil in first seven months

Sep 25, 2001 02:00 AM

Pemex CEO Raul Munoz Leos announced that, in the first seven months of the year, the nation sold $ 7 bn worth of crude oil, leading to $ 700 mm in extra revenues. During his appearance before the Chamber of Deputies, Munoz said the average price of Mexico's benchmark mix was 10 % above the budgeted price of $ 18 per barrel.

He reiterated that it is necessary that Pemex apply a new fiscal policy to allow it the resources necessary, and to give it the opportunity to attract financing. The company's low debt level should allow it to attract competitive financing, said Munoz. Legislators expressed support for the idea of using Pemex workers' pension contributions to finance the company's investments.
