Mexican industrial sector calls to not export natural gas

Sep 20, 2001 02:00 AM

In the face of growing demand for natural gas for electricity generating plants that are due to open over the next several months, Mexico's industrial sector called on the Energy Ministry to not export natural gas, and to consider it to be a strategic fuel for the development of the nation.
This step would allow the country to deal with problems of short supply or high prices in international markets, said industry leaders.

They also asked that the government increase public investments in the exploration and extraction of natural gas, reduce the burning of natural gas in the atmosphere and reinforce the natural gas processing infrastructure.
