European Transport and Energy Commissioner Loyola de Palacio thanked OPEC for its efforts to stabilize oil prices after terrorist attacks in the US. "I thank and congratulate OPEC for its action against a price flare-up on oil markets after the attacks in the United States," she said, hailing the group's "extremely responsible attitude." "The prices (of oil) have already gone down and they continue to drop," she said.

OPEC president Shakib Khelil of Algeria said the cartel would seek to guarantee a stable oil market and meet demand in the wake of the attacks. "The member countries of OPEC are for the stabilisation of the oil market. The organisation is working to satisfy all demand on the market," Algeria's energy minister was quoted as saying.
