Kazakhstan's government said that a total of 23.4 mm tons of crude oil and gas condensate had been extracted in the first eight months of 2001, up from 19.4 mm tons in the same period of last year. The figures were made public several days before Nurlan Kapparov told that 22.4 mm tons of oil and condensate had been produced in the January-August period.
The government also noted that some 2.9 mm tons of oil and condensate had been extracted in the month of August alone, down from the July figure of 3.1 mm tons but up from 2.4 mm tons in August of 2000.
Kazakhstan produced a total of 30.6 mm tons of crude oil and gas condensate in the year 2000. Kapparov said that yearly output was likely to rise to 33.5 mm tons in 2001.
