Russia and EU to start dialogue on energy problems

Oct 03, 2001 02:00 AM

Russia and the European Union have agreed to start a dialogue on energy problems for the purpose of developing partnership in tackling that problem, says a joint statement on energy dialogue, which was adopted on the results of the Russia-EU summit.
"Russia and EU share the concern about the stability of energy markets, about ways to ensure the reliable growth of exports and imports, and about the need for modernizing the Russian energy sector," the statement says.

The statement recognises the common interest of the contracting parties in the building of a Yamal-Europe gas pipeline via Belarus and Poland.
