Investments in Brazilian power sector to reach $ 14 bn

The investments in the electric power sector in Brazil between 2001 and 2003 will reach $ 14 bn, including hydroelectric power facilities, thermal electric power facilities, transmission lines, substations and infrastructure works. Such an amount represents a record investment in the sector, according to ABDIB (Associacao Brasileira de Infra-Estrutura e Industrias de Base).

Brazil will have other 14,228 MW until December 2003, being 7,805 MW from hydroelectric power facilities, 6,423 MW from 15 thermal electric power units. 2,836 MW will be imported from Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, amounting to 17,064 MW. From the overall investments, $ 7 bn will be injected in hydroelectric power facilities; $ 4.4 bn in thermal electric facilities; $ 1.2 bn in transmission lines; $ 426 mm in substations and $ 992 in transmission works for the import of energy.
