Researchers see need for further exploration in southern Russia

Nov 22, 2001 01:00 AM

Researchers from the Russian Oil and Gas Industry Organization, Management and Economy Research Institute have spoken of the need for further exploration of oil reserves in southern Russia.
Although many local deposits are thought to be exhausted, new extraction methods will make it possible to discover sizable oil reserves, say, in the western Azov Sea area, the eastern Donetsk Basin and the Caspian Sea area. Thus, researchers insist on the further exploration of the Volgodonsk deposit, which has proven oil reserves estimated at 500 mm tons and 500 bn cm of gas reserves.
