Peru reports on power generation

Electricity generation in Peru increased 6.8 % in January, totalling 1,828 GWh compared to 1,712 GWh in January 2001, a spokesperson at the Mines and Energy Ministry told. Of January's total, 1,565 GWh came from hydraulic sources, an increase of 4.6 % on January 2001, and 262 GWh from thermal, a 21.5 % increase on January last year.

In terms of companies, state company Electroperu generated most electricity (574 GWh), a 1.4 % increase on January 2001; Edegel was in second place with 406 GWh, down 9.7 %; Egenor 134 GWh (+63,8 %); Electroandes 96.8 GWh (-8.6 %); and Egasa 90.8 GWh (-41.6 %).
