Khristenko comments on 2001 Russian oil and gas output

Feb 12, 2002 01:00 AM

Russia's Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Khristenko said late last month that domestic producers had extracted 348 mm tons of crude oil and gas condensate last year (equivalent to 6.99 mm bpd). Condensate accounted for 10 mm tons of total production or 200,000 bpd, he said.
Earlier in January, the Russian State Statistics Committee had reported the figure of 337 mm tons for oil output in 2001, up 7.7 % on the previous year's figure of 313 mm tons. The reason for the discrepancy between Khristenko's figure and that given by the committee was not immediately clear.

The deputy premier also said that Russia's overall gas output had dropped by 10 bn cm in 2001 even though domestic oil companies boosted their gas production by 6 bn cm last year. According to previous reports, Russian producers extracted more than 555 bn cm of natural gas in 2001.
