Russia reports on LPG production, exports and consumption

Mar 06, 2002 01:00 AM

Russia's Energy Ministry announced earlier this month that domestic refineries had turned out a total of 6.85 mm tons of LPG in 2001. This marks a 4 % increase on the previous year's figure of 6.59 mm tons, the ministry said. It noted that LPG output is expected to reach 6.98 mm tons this year, which would mark a 1.9 % increase on the 2001 figure.
The ministry also stated that Russian producers had exported some 930,000 tons of LPG last year, or about 13.6 % of output. It did not give a comparative figure for 2000 but said that export volumes were expected to drop to 900,000 tons this year, or about 12.9 % of output.

More than half of all LPG produced in Russia in 2001 -- 3.72 mm tons, or 54.2 % of output -- was consumed by petrochemical plants. Other industries consumed 2.2 mm tons, or 32.1 % of output, according to the Energy Ministry.
