Crude from Chechnya refined in neighbouring republics

Mar 04, 2002 01:00 AM

Operation Chechen Oil has revealed that entire enterprises are involved in illegal exportation and refining of crude from Chechnya.
A source in the Interior Ministry of North Ossetia told that law enforcement operatives has bought some 17 tons of diesel oil from the manager of the oil refinery located in Silgi and then searched the refinery to discover that 71 tons of oil, 42 tons of petrol, 68 tons of diesel fuel and 43 tons of fuel oil were stored in the premises without a single scrap of paper documenting their origin or destination.

The law enforcers suspect that the petroleum products were stolen and imported from Chechnya to be processed at the local refinery and then sold to customers through the filling stations located in North Ossetia.
