Russian government approves electricity investment figures

The Russian government has endorsed as a whole a programme of investment in the electric power sector of Russia. The programme provides for the investment of R 102 bn in the electric power sector in 2002, Deputy Minister of Trade and Economic Development Andrey Sharonov told.
He noted that the programme had been endorsed "practically in the same format in which it was considered in December, and no shifts have been made in the earlier envisaged amounts".

He said the investment resources of [national grid operator] Unified Energy System of Russia amount to R 16.7 bn, of the nuclear power industry -- R19.8 bn and of the regional electric power companies.
