Libya preferred area for new exploration and production

Mar 21, 2002 01:00 AM

Libya was voted the most attractive country for new exploration and production ventures for the third straight year by oil companies involved in exploration and production activity outside North America, a poll showed.
Participating companies were asked to rate their level of interest in new ventures in 146 countries by UK-based Robertson Research International.

Despite the slow pace of new contract negotiations and awards as well as ongoing US sanctions, Libya topped the list again. The UK rose to second place after three years of sliding down the poll. Mexico was rated eighth, with explorers undeterred by the recent moves by state-owned Pemex concerning proposed multiple service contract.
