Italy has most expensive wind power in Europe

Italy has the most expensive wind power in the European Union, according to data released by Spain's association of renewables producers APPA. Italian wind power costs a minimum of EUR 0.10/kWh. Germany is the second most expensive, charging a minimum price of EUR 0.09/kWh.

The cheapest wind generation is found in Ireland where the minimum price of wind power is only EUR 0.03/kWh. Wind generation is gaining importance in European power markets as a number of countries invest in the technology. Germany is the country with most wind power installed -- around 8 GW -- followed by Spain with a total of 3.77 GW installed at the end of 2001.
