Mexico reports on 2001 oil and gas reserves

In 2001, proven, probable and possible oil reserves totalled 52.95 bn barrels, down 5.7 % from the previous year, according to the year-end report of Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex).
The composition of the reserves was as follows:
72.3 % crude oil;
2.1 % condensed:
7.2 % plant liquids;
and 18.4 % dry gas.

Some 35.1 % of the reserves were located in the North-eastern Marine Region, 9.1 % in the Southeaster Marine Region, 39.8 % in the Northern Region and 16.0 % in the Southern Region. Production in 2001 totalled 3.13 mm bpd, up 3.8 % from the previous year.
Natural gas production reached 4.51 mm cfpd, down 3.6 % from 2000. Export income totalled $ 13.25 bn. Crude production is expected to rise 4.5 % in 2002, and natural gas production 0.3 %.
