Peru reports on power generation

Mar 20, 2002 01:00 AM

February generation in Peru reached 1,668.8 GWh, 4.9 % more than the same month in 2001, the mines and energy ministry announced. According to the dispatch centre (COES) for the national grid (SICN), production was 1,496.6 GWh in February 2002, 7.1 % up on the same month a year earlier.
Leading generators in the SICN were state-owned Electroperu, and private generators Edegel and Egenor.

Hydro power accounted for 91.9 % of total SICN generation and thermo power provided the rest. At a national level, hydro power accounted for 1,427.8 GWh, 85.5 % of February's total, and 0.6 % more than in the same month in 2001, as a consequence of increased generation for the electricity market. The accumulated national total is 5,030.3 GWh, up 2 % on the same period last year.
