Six independent producers to attend OPEC meeting

Mar 12, 2002 01:00 AM

Six independent oil producing countries will attend the OPEC's conference in Vienna as observers, an OPEC spokesman said. Among the six will be Russia, Mexico, Oman and Angola which, with Norway, joined OPEC in cutting production at the beginning of this year. Norway was invited to attend but declined the invitation.

Egypt and Syria will join the group of non-OPEC observers, and will be represented by their respective oil ministers, Sameh Fahmy and Dr Ibrahim Haddad. Angola will also be represented by its oil minister, Botelho Vasconcelos. The other countries will be represented at undersecretary and ambassadorial level.
