Iran to begin prospecting in disputed area in Caspian Sea

Iranian Oil Minister Bidjan Zangene has announced that Iran is ready to begin prospecting for oil in the disputed sector of the Caspian Sea, which is claimed by Iran. An Iranian coastal service cutter penetrated the Azerbaijani border.

Iran has long insisted on dividing the Caspian Sea into five sectors equal in area, meanwhile Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have advocated a national sector demarcation in proportion to the length of the coastal line of each of the five Caspian states.
