Iran to supply 12 % of global oil in 20 years

Mar 11, 2002 01:00 AM

Iran, currently OPEC's second largest crude exporter after Saudi Arabia, will supply 12 % of the world's oil within 20 years, a senior Iranian oil official said. "World oil demand will double over the coming 20 years and the percentage of Persian Gulf oil in world supply will increase from 17 to 58 %," said Mohammad-Taghi Amanpour, head of the Iranian company promoting oil products.
"Iran will meet 12 % of world oil supplies," or almost double its current amount, Amanpour said recently.

Iran has the third largest oil reserves in the world after Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
