Indonesia set to expand LNG sales to China

Nov 27, 2002 01:00 AM

The Indonesian government is set to expand sales of LNG to China, the Energy and Mineral Resource Ministry said. The ministry said after signing a long-term contract on LNG export to the province of Fujian that Indonesia hopes to also sell the product to two other provinces in eastern China, namely Jiangsu and Shandong.

The long-term contract with Funjian has opened the possibility of increasing LNG exports to China. Jiangsu and Shandong are fast-growing provinces with per capita income of more than $ 1,000. Therefore, they are expected to need a large supply of LNG.
Energy and Mineral Resource Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro and Baihaki Hakim, chief of the state-owned oil and gas company, have just visited China to discuss the possibility of increasing LNG supply from Indonesia to eastern part of China.

Indonesia is looking for more markets to dispose of LNG expected to be produced from a new gas field in Tangguh, Papua, where a new LNG plant is being built in cooperation with BP.
