Brunei awards deepwater blocks

Jan 27, 2003 01:00 AM

State-run Petroleum Brunei's production sharing contract negotiations with two consortia are nearing closure and final agreements are expected by end March, a company official said.

The two consortia were each awarded deepwater Blocks J and K last February. Block J was awarded to TotalFinaElf (operator), Amerada Hess, and BHP Billiton. Block K was awarded to Shell (operator) ConocoPhillips, and Mitsubishi.
Both blocks are located in the South China Sea. Block K, which covers an area of 5,000 sq km, has estimated gas reserves of 10-tcf. No reserve estimates were available for adjacent Block J, also of the same size of around 5,000 sq km.
