Feb 02, 2003 01:00 AM

The Vietnamese electricity sector intends to invest 17.477 tn Vietnamese dong (VND) ($ 1.142 bn) in projects to develop the country's power sources and grids.
The investment aims to ensure sufficient power supply for industries, domestic use and consumption, said Vietnamese Industry Minister Hoang Trung Hai.

The sector expects to sell over 34.25 bn kWh this year and to commence construction of many power projects and speed up other ongoing power projects.
This year, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) will complete 554 power grids of 110-220 kV, rural medium-voltage projects and rural energy projects, while rehabilitating town and city power grids and launching the Pleiku-Phu Lam and Phu My-Nha Trang-Phu Lam 500 kV power transmission lines.
