The Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of the United Arab Emirates' Ras al Khaimah, Shaikh Khalid bin Saqr al Qasimi, said that a discovery has been made of gas reserves in the country, but that it is yet to be determined if the find is in sufficient quantity to make it commercial.
Shaikh Khalid said the discovery well "C" is under the development of the Ras al Khaimah Gas Authority, which is investigating its reserves. "If the gas well is of commercial quantity," he said, it will be the responsibility of the Gas Authority to develop it into a producing well."

Currently Ras al Khaimah only has one source of gas, the Saleh offshore well within the equatory of Oman. It has, however, been in deep decline and is being replaced by Oman's Bukha Field, also offshore, which, Shaikh Khalid said, has been "dedicated by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos of Oman to the people of Ras al Khaimah to meet the needs of the country."
