Iran will become an important energy market in the region in the near future, said Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi in Oslo on 31 January.
"Iran enjoys high potentials in the fields of energy and its rich oil and gas resources in northern and southern parts of the country -- as among the shortest, cheapest and most secure routes for energy transmission to other countries -- have given it unique features," said Kharrazi in a meeting with Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy Einar Steensnaes.

Kharrazi pointed to a number of oil and gas projects as well as bilateral cooperation between Iran and regional countries and welcomed further investment of Norwegian companies in Iran's oil and gas industries.
Steensnaes, for his part, said that Iran and Norway enjoy invaluable experiences to further boost bilateral cooperation in oil and gas areas. He expressed his country's determination to bolster Tehran-Oslo cooperation and said mutual interest and joint resources between the two countries have brought their nations closer to each other.

Steensnaes stressed the need for bilateral relations in political and parliamentary fields based on mutual respect in order to speed up economic and industrial cooperation. "Norway as an oil producing country attaches special importance to the stability of the market," the Norwegian minister said.
The two ministers discussed current situation of energy supply and demand in the world and highlighted the need for economic mechanisms and market balance. The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Oslo talks with Norwegian leaders on issues of mutual interest as well. Kharrazi held separate meetings with the Norwegian king and premier in Oslo.
