Nov 21, 2003 01:00 AM

Nippon Oil said its oil and gas exploration subsidiary in Malaysia has started production of natural gas off Malaysia.
Nippon Oil Exploration (Malaysia) is scheduled to produce up to 7 mm cmpd of natural gas at the Helang gas well off Sarawak, Nippon Oil said.

Nippon Oil Exploration is owned 40.15 % by Nippon Oil, 38.58 % by the state-run Japan National Oil Corp., 15.00 % by Teikoku Oil and 6.27 % by Mitsubishi. The gas produced at the offshore gas well will be transported via an undersea pipeline to a liquefied plant in Malaysia for shipment to Japan, the nation's biggest oil distributor said.
Nippon Oil said it is the first Japanese company to produce, liquefy and market natural gas at its own facilities.
