Ukraine reports on gas production

Ukrainian gas production companies increased natural gas production 2.6 % year-on-year to 4.99 bn cm in January-March 2004, a source in the republic's Fuel and Energy Ministry said. Gas production in March increased 1.78 % from March 2003 to 1.7 mm cm.
Companies that are part of Naftogaz Ukrayiny increased gas production 2.9 % to 4.68 bn cm in the first two months of the year, including an increase of 2.4 % to 1.6 bn cm in February. Gas imports, including transit, increased 4.1 % to 48.2 bn cm, of which 16.8 bn cm were for sale on the domestic market -- up 7 % year-on-year. Imports from Turkmenistan amounted to 8.9 bn cm, and from Russia -- 7.9 bn cm.

Ukrainian gas companies produced 19.455 bn cm of gas in 2003, up 3.5 % year-on-year. Transit through the country last year increased 6.5 % from the previous year to amount to 129.3 bn cm. The largest oil and gas production companies in Ukraine are Ukrhazvydobuvanna, Naftogaz Ukrayiny subsidiary Ukrnafta and the state joint stock company Chernomornaftohaz.
Ukrtranshaz, also a Naftogaz Ukrayiny subsidiary, is the operator of the Ukrainian gas transport system and a monopoly transporter of gas from Russia to the European Union.
